Tables

Tables (previously called Smart Tables) allow you to combine a tabular layout with structured views to display data clearly.

Slite's advanced tables let you freely write rich content in cells, while also supporting structured columns & data such as tags, dates and more. These features allow your data to be filtered and sorted.

Collections vs Tables

Collections (Databases)  are one of the most important organizational features in Slite. It lets you organize documents in simple databases that you can reuse throughout your workspace.

Tables are parts of your documents, but do not impact the structure of your workspace.

When you are in doubt whether to create a collection or a table, simply ask if it should organize documents or not. If not, use a table!

Create a table

You can insert a table in any doc by:
  • Typing  /table
  • Inserting a new line and adding a Table from the toolbar
  • Using the keyboard shortcut: cmd + option + s (Mac) or  ctlr + alt + s (PC)
  • For a simpler layout table without any headers shown at first (see below), you can also use: cmd + option + t (Mac) or ctlr + alt + t (PC)

Drag and drop columns & rows

You can move your columns and rows (when the table is not sorted) to organize your data within the tables.

Column types

Each column has predefined types so you can format your data as you wish.
  • Rich Text - now supports most kinds of rich text formatting such as bullets or other basic editor features
  • Checkbox
  • Single tag
  • Multi tags
  • Number
  • People - @ mention of users
  • Doc links
  • Link (for external, non-Slite links)
  • Date (picker)

Currently, it is not possible to merge cells within a table.

Sorting

Sort your columns by name and date

Filtering

  • Filter columns to show only the info you need right now (filter by keyword, whether or not a column is empty, exact tag names, and more.)
  • Filter multiple columns at once.
  • Filtered columns appear highlighted (and marked with an icon).

You can use filtering to quickly remove blank columns:

You can also filter down by tags, comments, contained text, or other info to streamline your view:
