Sharing with Teammates

This article explains the different ways in which you can share docs with your teammates. With teammates, we refer to the people that are also members of the same Slite workspace.

Every doc or channel in Slite has a Share menu. This is where you can manage who has access to it. Slite works with cascading permissions. This means that when someone is added to a channel, they by default can see all the docs that live in this channel.

Of course, you are always able to modify this and overwrite the default permissions. Below is a visualization of the different possibilities:

A doc that has been shared with you can be part of three different sections in Slite, it can be:

Part of a public channel
Part of a private channel you have access to
Part of "Shared with me" (a section at the bottom of the left-hand sidebar, this hosts docs that are part of channels you don't have access to)

Share a channel or doc via the Share menu

When you share a doc with someone, they will be notified. To share a doc with a team member you can:

Click the Share menu.
Start typing the name of a teammate.
Click the Access menu and pick a role.
Click 'Update'.

Collaborate on private docs

You can even share docs that belong to your private channel. The steps to follow are the same as above.

All of the private docs that have been shared with you will live in the "Shared with me" section at the bottom of your sidebar.

Send out a doc link

You can copy a doc link and share it with your teammates, directly. Open the Share modal, and then select "Copy link".

Notify your teammates directly in the doc

If a doc has already been shared with someone, instead of sending them the link, you can nudge them on the doc directly to get their attention.

→ Just click the bell icon. You'll be prompted to add an optional message if you'd like. Click "Confirm nudge" to send out a notification.

Share via integrated apps, like   Slack

You can share your docs wherever is most convenient for you.
